About OBEY

OBEY was founded in 2001 by none other than Shepard Fairey, the world-renowned artist who seeks to improve the world through his art. What started for Fairey with an absurd sticker he made in 1989 while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, has since grown into a global street art campaign and an acclaimed collection of fine art. OBEY Clothing was founded in 2001 as an extension of Shepard's work. In line with his populist views, clothing became another way to spread his art and message to the people. The clothing is heavily inspired by classic military design, workwear basics, as well as the elements and cultural movements on which Shepard has based his art career. OBEY Clothing is also known for addressing political and corporate issues through its clothing. Provocative propaganda on clothing designed by this street artist. A real extension of his activism. The name comes from the logo of the American cult horror film called 'They Live'.
