Vans is comming with a re-release, the ‘Fast Times’ Slip-Ons. To honour the movie that made Vans grow to the big brand they are at the moment.

In 1977 the first Vans Slip-Ons were released. Later they added the checkerdboard versions, this was because company founder Paul van Doren noticed that Socal skateboardboys were coloring their white Vans with chekerboards. The actor Sean Penn also liked the Vans. He actually liked them so much that he wore them to the set. On set he convinced the director, Amy Heckerling, into letting him wear them on camera.

In this legendary scene you can see Spicoli with the checkerboard Vans.

The movie definitely helped Vans grow. Steve Van Doren, son of Vans co-founder Paul Van Doren, previously said: “Fast Times definitely put us on the map. We were about a $20 million company before the movie came out, and we were on track for $40 million to 45 milion after that.

The shoe is a white slip-on with a black checkerdboard. The words ‘Fast Times’ and a silhouette of Joe Spicoli are shown on the sole of the shoe.

The Vans are available now on FRESHCOTTON, check them out here!
