A new week, a new Editors’ Pick. The inspiration for this week’s Editors’ Pick came to us when we noticed that a filmset was stationed outside our office front door. A production team was shooting a scene for Baantjer, a Dutch TV series. The filmset inspired us to shoot a movie director inspired Editors’ Pick, for which we have chosen Steven Spielberg as our ‘style icon’.
In the past it was expected and common for movie directors to have a formal appearance. From their directors’ chair they could be seen overlooking their movie set while wearing a suit along with sunglasses and a baret. Steven Spielberg is seen in this very same look in the section above. Notice the suit and tie along with the baret, he is completely fitted in a traditional movie directors’ outfit.
As mentioned earlier, it was expected and common for movie directors to be seen in that very same look in the past. This started to change when the students from the California Film School started to take over Hollywood. Steven Spielberg was one of the students at the time who started to work as a movie director. In contradiction to the picture showed earlier on, he was actually usually seen wearing clothes more suit for comfort rather than formality. Like on the set of jaws in the picture above. You can see him wearing a comfortable outfit more suit for the weather.
Movie directors need to be prepared for the weather on every set, which has led them to wear clothing in layers. Making it easy for them to adapt their outfit to changing outdoor weather. Thereby making it comfortable for them to work long days outdoors. For our Editors’ Pick we have chosen to follow the example set by Spielberg as seen in the section below.
The Editors’ Pick of this week features a burgundy polo from Ralph Lauren over a simplistic white t-shirt for layering. As we are experiencing hot weather, our movie director is seen wearing black Quality Blanks sweat shorts for breathability. The look is finished with comfortable fitting adidas A.R. Trainers along with a black cap from New Amsterdam Surf Association which provides protection from the scorching sun.
