The origins of Dr. Martens lay in Northamptonshire. Here is where family the Griggs started creating boots in 1901.
44 years later Dr. Klaus Maertens is recovering from a broken foot in Munich. To speed up his recovery, he designed a shoe with a unique air-cushioned sole. Over the years they altered the heel, the upper, the sole and sole pattern, and added a recognisable yellow stitch and branded heel loop. This is where the 1460 Dr. Martens boot made its way.
Originally the boot was worn by working classes, such as factory workers, policemen and postmen. After Pete Townshend of 'The Who' started wearing the boots as indication of his own working-class pride and rebellious view, the boot became a subcultural necessity.
Today, we can not imagine our city streets without any 'docs' struttin' around. Dr. Martens even celebrated their 60th birthday in 2020.  Freshcotton loves that we now have something other than sneakers in our closet. A little variety goes a long way right?
We love us some loafers, but our favourites must be the 1461! We styled the shoes in our own authentic way, this way we are showing you how you can wear your Dr. Martens from now on. Do you like their story and shoes? Go shop here now at Freshcotton.
